Professional Services Marketing in Manchester: How Solicitors and Accountants Win Enquiries

Professional services marketing in Manchester has one problem that most agencies ignore: the people searching are rarely browsing. Someone typing "employment solicitor Manchester" or "accountant for limited company Manchester" has a problem this week, and they will contact the first two or three firms that look credible and answer quickly. If you are not one of them, the rest of your marketing is academic.

This is how solicitors, accountants, financial advisers and similar firms in Greater Manchester should spend their budget, and where they usually waste it.

Start with the searches that already have intent

Google Ads on specific services, not the firm name. "Commercial property solicitor Manchester" is a better bet than "law firm Manchester". The narrow search comes from someone who knows what they need. The broad one comes from students, job seekers and competitors. If you want the mechanics, our Google Ads service page explains how we structure accounts around individual services.

Exclude the wrong searches from day one. Professional services accounts leak money to "jobs", "salary", "free advice", "template" and "how to become". Build the negative keyword list before launch, not after the first invoice.

Use location targeting properly. A Manchester firm with a Leeds enquiry problem is paying for clicks it cannot serve. Set targeting to people in your area, not people interested in it, and check the search terms report weekly.

Your Google Business Profile is a lead source, not a listing

For local searches, the map results often sit above the organic ones. Firms with a complete profile, a clear primary category, real reviews and a consistent name, address and phone number show up more often than firms that set it up once in 2019. Ask for reviews at the point the client is happiest, which is usually when the matter closes successfully, not three months later.

Do not put keywords into your business name. It breaks Google's guidelines and invites suspension. We cover the wider approach in our SEO service and in our guide to winning the map pack in Manchester.

Know the rules before you spend a pound

Regulated firms have an advantage that unregulated competitors do not: trust signals. They also have obligations that affect how you advertise.

Solicitors. The SRA's transparency rules require firms to publish price and service information on their website for certain services, including residential conveyancing, uncontested probate and employment tribunal claims. The requirements include what the price covers, whether VAT applies, and typical timescales. The full list is in the SRA guidance on transparency in price and service. If your landing page hides the price, you are breaking the rules and giving visitors a reason to leave.

Financial advisers and anyone advertising financial services. Google requires financial services advertisers targeting the UK to complete verification, and UK verification centres on being authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority or qualifying for an exemption. Read Google's UK financial services policy before building the campaign, because unverified ads will not run. Do this first, not on launch day.

Accountants. Fewer ad restrictions, but the same rule applies: claim only what you can evidence. "Specialists in contractor tax" needs a page that proves it.

The landing page decides whether the click was worth it

Professional services clicks are expensive because the lifetime value of a client is high. That makes a weak landing page the most expensive mistake in the account.

A page that converts for this sector usually has one service, one clear action, a phone number that is visible without scrolling on mobile, a short form asking for name, number and a one-line description of the matter, and proof: named partners, accreditations, genuine reviews. Do not send paid traffic to your homepage. Our conversion rate optimisation service exists because this is where most of the recoverable revenue sits.

Speed matters too. If a prospect fills in your form at 4pm and hears back the next afternoon, a competitor will have spoken to them already. Fix your response process before you increase spend.

    Measure enquiries that become clients

An enquiry is not a client. Firms that only track form fills end up rewarding campaigns that generate time-wasters. Track calls as well as forms, record which source each new client came from, and feed that back into the account. Over a few months, you will see that two or three services produce nearly all the profitable work, and you can move budget accordingly.

    What we would not do

We would not run broad brand-awareness campaigns for a firm with under five fee earners. We would not chase every service line at once. And we would not promise a flood of leads in month one: the first weeks go on learning which searches turn into clients.

    Next step

If you run a professional services firm in Manchester or the North West and want an honest view of where your enquiries should come from, get in touch. We will look at your current setup and tell you what to fix first, including whether paid search is worth your budget at all.
